OMAE (nee Tsuji), Kinuyo (Kay)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Kinuyo Omae. Mom was surrounded by her family when she peacefully passed away on March 12, 2016 at the age of 90 at the Salvation Army Rotary Hospice House in Richmond. She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Yeiji also known as “Eddie” who passed away in March 2000: brother Tadao “Ronnie” Tsuji and parents Kenjiro and Gen Tsuji and brother-in-law Takashi “Bill” Omae.

Kay is survived by her sons Alan (Chris), Darrel (Dorothy) and daughter Patti (Tony) D’Odorico; grandchildren Michael (Catherine) Omae, Mark Omae, Alyssa (Mauro Capitanio) Omae, Corinna Omae, Jeff, Brandon and Kyle D’Odorico; great grandchildren Grace and Matthew Omae: brother Eiji (Akiko) Tsuji and sister-in-law Estuko Tsuji, sister-in-law Shiz Omae and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Mom was born in 1925 in the Fisherman’s Hospital in Steveston B.C. now the site of The Maple Residences were she resided until her passing. She lived in Steveston until 1942 when she and her family were interned during WWII and sent to Greenwood in the Boundary Country of B.C. It was here that mom met Eddie Omae and they got married on December 20th 1947 in the United Church. Instead of returning to the coast they decided to make Greenwood their home and raise their family. Eddie and his brother took over the Windsor Café where Mom worked as a waitress. In 1967 the family moved to Vancouver were Mom worked for the CNIB and then for the Hudson Bay were she spent many years working in the Baron’s Inn until she retired to enjoy life with Dad who had retired earlier and to baby sit her grandchildren. Throughout her life with Dad they would take the occasional trip to Japan, Hawaii and Reno. After Dad’s stroke Mom would always be at his side to care for him and tend to his needs without any complaints.

Mom was also known as “Kinki” to many of her friends. She will be remembered as a quiet person but one who was always willing to help, who was more concerned of others well being than her own, very strong willed and a person who loved her family more than anything else and like most mothers very proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

As requested by Mom a private family service will be held after her cremation.

In lieu of Koden and flowers the Family has requested that a donation be made to either The Maple Residences in Steveston, The Salvation Army Rotary Hospice House or to the charity of your choice.
The family would like to thank the following: Dr. Koss; Dr. Hui, Dr. Alexiadas, and the staff at Richmond Hospital Palliative Care Unit; Dr. Sharma, the staff and volunteers at the Salvation Army Rotary Hospice Home who took care of Mom and made her last few days very comfortable. Also, a special thanks to Wendy and Eileen, the staff and the many residents at Maple Residences for making Mom feel at home in a warm and safe environment.
