It is with great sadness that our family announces the death of Brick. He was married to Mary for 68 years. He is also survived by two sons; Scott (Janet) of Woodstock, Ontario and David (Andrea) of Pismo Beach, California, as well as two grandchildren; Andrew and Emily, both living in Toronto. He was predeceased by his son Robert Craig and his sister Elizabeth Bradford Holbrook, a Hamilton sculptor of considerable note.

Brick fell in love with flying when he was seven years old, the same year that Charles Lindbergh flew across the Atlantic Ocean to Paris. Brick took flying lessons at the Hamilton flying club and was piloting planes before he could drive a car. It was at the Hamilton club that Jack was dubbed Brick after the comic strip hero of the day, Brick Bradford. The nickname stuck.

Brick continued to be a pilot until he was 75 years old. He flew for the RCAF/RAF in World War II training pilots in Windsor Ontario and in England. Later in the war he flew reconnaissance over Burma. After the war he flew for KLM, then came back to Canada and continued his flying career with for Hollinger, McNamara, Starflight, Overseas National, Purolator and Medivac in British Columbia.

A private family service has taken place and a memorial service to celebrate Brick’s life will be announced at a later date.

Brick had a very long and satisfying life. As he said himself, “I’m doing what I love most and getting paid for it.”

If you wish to make a charitable donation in Brick’s name, please choose a charity that is dear to you.
