GEORGE, Captain Jay Bradley

It is with heavy hearts we announce Jay’s passing on April 24, 2015 at Richmond General Hospital, BC, surrounded by family at the age of 52. He was born on June 16, 1962 in Kentville, Nova Scotia.Jay spent his life sailing the seas from the Atlantic to the Arctic to the Pacific, fishing on various vessels and seas, including the "Wanda and Paula" (a family owned dragger), and various Highliners out of National Sea Products in Lunenburg, NS. Jay fished off the Grands Banks of Nfld, then later in the waters off Juan de Fuca to the Alaska/BC border, and shrimp fishing off the waters of Greenland. In 2005 he returned to the Pacific to Viking Seafoods as Captain of the "Viking Enterprise" receiving Highliner of the Year in 2012. He and his family were very proud of the Master Mariners designation he worked hard to accomplish. He had the sea in his blood, even as a young boy, wanting to be right there learning the "ropes" from his Dad. He loved coming "home" to Nova Scotia to spend time with his family and friends and always brought the treats of the Pacific with him. In turn, he would return to "the gang" in BC with a few seafood treats from the Atlantic. Coming home "from fishing" it seemed he always wanted to arrange of all things "a fishing trip" of some kind...with someone...and grab some "Gundy" of course! Jay is predeceased by his father, Capt. Paul G. George in 1985. He is survived by his mother, Dr. E. Wanda George (Bill) of Medford, NS; his brother, Michael (Wanda) of Mt. Denson, NS and their children David, John, and Laura; and brother Joel (Kelly) of Lunenburg, NS and their children, Savannah, Alana, and Cowan; and his sister, Paula (Brad) of Blind Bay, NS and their children, Benjamin (Andrea) and Amyleigh. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honour of Jay to the Richmond Hospital Foundation, BC, or any charity or cause that is dear to your heart. A Memorial Service will take place Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the Richmond Funeral Home followed by a “Fisherman’s Send Off” in Steveston, BC. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date in Nova Scotia.
