<div itemprop="description"><br>It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother Jaroslawa (Lala) Soltys on March 6, 2017. Born in Volowe, Czechoslovakia, April 25, 1923. She was predeceased by her parents Paul and Antonina Yarosh, husband Stephan, sister Lydia in Ukraine, daughters, Lydia Soltys-Dahl and Sonya Soltys-Wright, son in laws Steven Wright and Gary Sturrock. She is survived by her loving daughters Martha Sturrock, Iris Stutt (Robin), grandchildren Mark (Lesley) Sturrock, Andrew (Michelle) Sturrock, Hunter and Lisa Stutt, Jessie and Chloe Elliott, eight great grandchildren, brother Wolodymyr (Bohdanna) Yarosh in Ottawa, and many nieces and nephews in Canada, Poland and Ukraine.<br><br>Mom studied economics in Ukraine. She opened a small general store in Sudova Vishnia where she & Dad lived. Mom, Dad and Martha immigrated to Canada from Ukraine during WWII, arriving at the famous Pier 21 in Halifax. The family moved to Winnipeg for a short time then headed west to settle in Richmond.<br><br>Mom had boundless energy. She worked at Imperial Packers Cannery in Steveston, while dad worked at Intercontinental Packers. This allowed them to buy a piece of land where they started to grow vegetables & eventually built a mushroom farm. Mom was a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League. She volunteered many hours teaching Ukrainian school & dance. In 1973, she realized her dream by opening “Lala’s’, a popular Ukrainian restaurant in Richmond, where she made many friends.<br><br>In retirement, Mom could always be found happily tending to her garden or her dogs. Above all, she loved her family.<br> <br>Special thanks to Dr. Cheryl Nagel and the staff at Richmond Hospital for taking such good care of Mom. In lieu of flowers, Mom would like donations made to the Richmond SPCA.<br>A Funeral and Celebration of Life will be held March 15th 2017 at 10:00 am at Dormition of the Mother of God Ukrainian Catholic Church, 8700 Railway, Ave., Richmond, BC with Reception to follow at Richmond Funeral Home, 8420 Cambie Road, Richmond, BC. Mass of Christian Burial at Ocean View Burial Park in Burnaby. Vichnaya Pamyat Mom.<br><br></div>
