KENNEDY, Dr. Henry Kinnear (Harry)

With heavy hearts the family of Harry Kennedy announce his peaceful passing at North Shore Hospice on April 19, 2014. Survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Winifred, and children, Geraldine, Colleen Drew (David), Brent (Lindsay), Greg and Janice Kennedy. Grandchildren Katie and Byron Vallis, Mitchell and Duncan Kennedy. Numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. Harry was born in Merritt, raised in Chilliwack, the youngest of four children. He went on to attend UBC for his undergraduate degree, then to Winnipeg where he obtained his MD. He continued on to Toronto for a fellowship in Public Health. Win and he were now married with a baby daughter, who they brought back to B.C. Harry and Win settled in Cloverdale where Harry was the Public Health doctor at the Boundary Health Unit and they raised their family. The family moved in 1973 to Richmond as Harry was working in Vancouver as Director of Community Programs in communicable diseases, kidney dialysis and hemophilia. He also taught at UBC as an associate professor. Harry retired in 1980 and enjoyed a wonderful retirement with Win. They enjoyed extensive travel, ballroom dancing, golfing, hiking, X-country skiing and many fishing trips and outings with the Richmond Golden Rods and Reels Society. Throughout his life, including his journey with prostate cancer, our Dad maintained his quiet dignity. He will be missed tremendously for his graciousness, positive outlook, and respect for all; he truly set a wonderful example. Special thanks to Dr. Duncan at CCABC who treated our Dad with respect and advocated for him. Service to be held 12 noon April 24, 2014 at Richmond Funeral Home, 8420 Cambie Road, Richmond. Reception to follow with light lunch. Interment will be at 3 pm Valleyview Memorial Gardens 14644-72nd Ave, Surrey. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Canadian Wildlife Federation at ww.cwf-fcf.org would be greatly appreciated or Hospice of your choice
