Eileen Fowler
March 21, 1923 - July 25, 2016
Eileen Mary was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Eldest child of Chap and Teen Naylen, sister to Merle (Frank), Patricia (Norman, deceased), Monica (John), Ed (Doreen), Vonda (Frank). Spouse of Edwin; mother of Maureen, Ed (Janice, deceased), Erin (Michael), Shauna, Sharon; grandmother to Chelsea, Emma, Daryl, Lauren and Jamie; and great grandmother to Shai. Eileen grew up on the family farm near Virden, Manitoba. Upon successful completion of her teacher training she took a train to the West Coast and decided that this is where she wanted to live. She embarked on her remarkable teaching career that spanned 4 decades and touched the lives of many. Post retirement she continued with her love of teaching, focusing on adult education at St. Paul's Parish in Richmond. Eileen always sparkled in the presence of children, young adults, and her grandchildren.
Eileen died peacefully in the home which she and Edwin built in 1952. Her transition was eased by the sounds of nature from the backyard, the familiar sounds of their home, and the love and presence of her family. Some of her last words were: ‘I wonder...I hope…I thank you.” We are indebted to Crystal, Reina, and the Classic Life Care Team; palliative nurses Jenny, Isabelle, and Margaret, and all at Evergreen. Eileen’s wish to die at home was made possible by the attentive care and active support of her physician Dr. Luke Tse and his wonderful partner Elida, RN.
In communion with Eileen, we thank you for your thoughts, prayers and support during this time. Please join us in giving thanks for her life: Visitation at Richmond Funeral Home, Thursday, August 4th, 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Her Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, Friday, August 5th at 12:00 noon. Reception to follow at Richmond Funeral Home from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Sarah McLachlan School of Music.
