Dipchan Roopnarine Omaid was born in 1941, in Tunapuna, Trinidad. After finishing school, he taught Kindergarten and Grade 1 until he immigrated to Canada to study. He studied nursing at Walla Walla College in Washington, and became a Registered Nurse. Shortly after, he met his wife Phasela, and the two were married in 1977 in Guyana. His children, Tara and Shaun, were born in 1983 and 1986. He worked as a nurse for over thirty years, first working at Shaughnessy Hospital, then Vancouver General Hospital, and finally retiring from nursing in 2002, ending his career at Burnaby General Hospital. Dipchan was a lifelong fan of James Bond (there is only one true Bond according to him – Sean Connery). His sense of humour would light up a room, and although he was a man of few words, when he spoke it was always with quiet wisdom. He is survived by a large caring family who will miss him dearly, especially his two loving children Tara and Shaun, his adoring wife Phasela, his son-in-law Justin, his future daughter-in-law Rita, and his darling granddaughter, Cadence, whom he loved with all his heart.
