A Tribute to my Father

Before I begin I would like to thank all of you here on behalf of my mother, my husband and my beautiful girls to be here today, to help us mark my father’s passing.

I am honoured to be here to speak to you about my father.

Each of you here had your own relationship with my Dad, each of you has your own set of memories and your own word picture that describes this man. I don’t presume to know the man that you knew. But I hope that, in this eulogy that I offer, you will recognize some part of the man that we all knew, the man that is no longer amongst us, the man who will never be gone until all of us here have passed.

My father was the eldest in his family and took great care in raising his brothers and sisters when his father passed away early. He was hard working, caring and generous. He was proud of his Portuguese heritage and opened his heart and his home to whoever needed his help. My dad was a sea captain and was never afraid of the storms and the rough weathers he encountered while he sailed the seven seas. He had a great zest for life and enjoyed various hobbies; hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a dreamer. I remember growing up he always believed that I could achieve anything I wanted and he made sure I was pursuing my dreams. He always considered me to be his son and his daughter.

He loved my girls and I even remember him being excited to travel with us to Victoria when my daughter started her University education. He returned home crying for his “Roshanara”.

I want to thank my mom and my husband for their relentless efforts to make sure he enjoyed life and had everything he needed right up until his final goodbyes. We were all hoping he would be able to come back home, but we are thankful he passed away in the presence of family and friends who truly loved him.

God bless and goodbye papa.

Your loving daughter
